opening .fdx files

Hi,

I'm having trouble opening .fdx files that are downloaded to my Nexus 7. Dubscript automatically tries to open them from the download, but then says "this file is unreadable". I'm using Beta 36 on KitKat on a Nexus 7 mk 2. Any thoughts?

Hey montimer-- thanks for writing!

Can you give a little more detail about what you're using to open the file? I've got a nexus 7 here so I can try the same steps. Some questions--

* You're using a .fdx file and not the older .fdr file, right?

* How did you download the file to your tablet? Did you email it? Put it on a web site and downloaded it? Or some other method?

* How are you choosing to open the file? If you downloaded it to the external storage, are you using a File Manager (such as to click on it, or are you opening it from within DubScript's file picker (the "eye" icon)?

The more detail you give me in how you're installing, the better job I can do in helping to figure out what's wrong... Thanks!

is it possible your file contains HTML style encoded characters, such as %20 for a space (" ")?

I've just fixed a bug so that such characters are changed, but maybe try renaming your file and see if it works. Otherwise, wait for the latest version and see if it fixes your problem... thanks again!

Hi, another question about importing/opening final draft files in Dubscript I'm afraid! And before you ask, yes, I am using fdx:-)
Here was the process - I connected my android phone to my laptop and found the script I had written on the phone (using dubcript). Lets call the script S1. S1 was not located in a folder, but as a loose file below all the folders. I managed to import the dubstep script (S1) into final draft where I did more work on it. Once finished I saved my updated file, call it S2, as an fdx file and copied into the same directory (on the phone) as S1 - the 2 were side by side. I then went back to my smartphone and opened dubscript. Of course it just opened my original S1 (not the updated) file. There is a 'fountain' suffix to the file I believe. However I could find no option, in any menu within dubscript, to import or open a final draft file. Is it possible? Please, if the answer is no just say No, questions about which phone/tablet I am using should not be relevant.
Thank you, Garrett
p.s. I tried to rename my fdx file to the fountain suffix (as was the original) hoping it would automatically open it but it opened a blank script. When I went to the 'eye' icon in dubscript it couldn't find my renamed file. Unless dubscript and final draft can 'talk' back and forth to each other it is useles to me. If it can i will gladly upgrade.

Hey garrett,

So what you're wanting to do should work. To load in an FDX file, just find the file (ending in .fdx) on the phone from the "eye" icon. The file should load and you should see it immediately. To convert to a .fountain file for editing, you swipe to the "edit" side, and then hit the "Convert to Fountain" button. It'll ask you what you want to call the new file, and you're off to editing.

When you're done, if you want to save as .fdx instead of .fountain, just hold down the save button (the disk icon) and you'll get an option to convert it back to .fdx.

I could find no option, in any menu within dubscript, to import or open a final draft file. Is it possible? Please, if the answer is no just say No, questions about which phone/tablet I am using should not be relevant.

You don't need any special command to load a final draft file-- it's the same eye icon as when you loaded the .fountain file. The file should end with .fdx or .FDX so that dubscript knows it's a Final Draft file. Is it possible that the file didn't end with .fdx? Or that you didn't try the "eye" (open a file) icon as you did with fountain?

If your "S2.fdx" file is in the same place as the fountain file "S1.fountain" you created earlier, there should be no problem. You should be able to load and display it.

Let me know if you're still having problems. There's no "upgrade"-- final draft files should open and be convertable to .fountain with the latest free one :)
